Roots in Allandale
Updated: Sep 17, 2018
Any description of me and my connection to Allandale could only begin with the two most influential people in my life... my parents, Barb and Wayne Harris.
My mother's maiden name is Barb McFadden. She spent much of her younger years living on Campbell Avenue with her 9 siblings; Bob, Dorothy, Moe, Don (Jug), Bill, Ernie, Donna, Dave, and John. My grandmother Jean lived there until shortly before she passed. My father Wayne is originally from Grenfell. He also comes from a large family with 6 siblings, Pat, Doug, Marg, Steve, Joan and John.
My parents were married in 1963 at the Essa Road Presbyterian Church. They have operated a successful small business in Barrie for over 40 years.
As a young person I witnessed my parents regularly give back to the community. My father proudly served as a Barrie Volunteer Firefighter for 20 years and helped with many sports teams. My mother donated countless hours to the BMHA Parents Auxiliary, including serving as president. As business owners they have sponsored Barrie Sports teams and community events for many years.
It is from them that I learned the importance of working hard, doing your best, the value of friends and family, and the importance of giving back to the community that gives so much to you.
