Re-Elect Jim Harris
Councillor Ward 8
A Dedicated and Experienced
Voice on Council
As a life-long Barrie resident, and someone who is asking to be re-elected as your representative I feel it is important to provide you with some information about who I am and how I will approach the role of Councillor.
Having experienced Barrie as a child, teen, young adult and parent, this city is more than where I live, it is a part of who I am.
My first term on Council has provided me with invaluable experience to effectively meet the needs of fellow Ward 8 residents.
As your Councillor I look forward to combining the experience and knowledge gained over the past 4 years with my professional experience, which includes both participating and leading planning and community development efforts at a National, Provincial, Regional and Local Level.
Ward 8 has issues that are unique and important to our residents. Current issues include the Allandale transit hub, the impact of provincial density targets, specifically secondary suites and detached dwellings, being part of the designated urban growth center and preserving both built and natural heritage. Other key issues include: Traffic Management, City Facilities and Services, Fair Taxation, the Local Economy, Affordable and Supportive Housing. As your voice on Council I would like to hear what your key issues are.
Roots in Barrie
I am very proud to proclaim that I was born and raised in Barrie, and along with my wife Michele chose to raise our family in Ward 8. My parents, Barb and Wayne Harris operated a small business in Barrie for 40+ years. Experiencing this city as a child, teen, young adult, and parent throughout its growth and evolution has given me a unique appreciation for the quality of life this community offers us all. And because of this, Barrie is more than where I live, it's a part of who I am. This commitment, passion, and appreciation for our community drives me to work diligently for my fellow Ward 8 residents, and collaboratively with other Councilors to create both a better Ward 8 and City of Barrie.
