Voice on Council
About Jim
As a life-long Barrie resident, and someone who is asking to be your elected representative I feel it is important to provide you with some information about who I am and how I will approach the role of Councillor. Barrie is more than where I live, it is a part of who I am.
Experienced
My professional experience includes both participating and leading planning and community development efforts at a National, Provincial, Regional and Local Level. Most recently I was honoured to receive the Chief of Police Award at the 2018 Barrie Police Services. I look forward to building on my efforts to increase the safety of our community.
Key Issues
Ward 8 has issues that are unique and important to our residents. Recent issues include the proposed transit hub and waterfront stadium. Other key issues include: Traffic Management, City Facilities and Services, Fair Taxation, Preserving our History, the Local Economy, Affordable Housing, and Increasing Access to Post Secondary Education. As your voice on Council I would like to hear what your key issues are.
Roots in Barrie

I am very proud to proclaim that I was born and raised in Barrie, and along with my wife Michele choose to raise our family in Ward 8. My parents, Barb and Wayne Harris have operated a small business in Barrie for 40+ years. Experiencing this city as a child, teen, young adult, and parent throughout its growth and evolution has given me a unique appreciation for the quality of life this community offers us all. And because of this, Barrie is more than where I live, it's a part of who I am.
It is with this commitment, passion, and appreciation for our community that I will work diligently for my fellow Ward 8 residents, and collaboratively with other Councilors to create both a better Ward 8 and City of Barrie.
